This is a non-story? secp256k1 was a reasonable choice at the time, the NSA curves had the NSA smell about them and didn't purport to be better. Now it turns out that they likely would have been ok after all, but it doesn't matter, the alternative chosen has been working fine. In secp256k1 there are various implementation hazards but you just have to be careful. Not sure if the NSA curves had the same hazards.

Yeah after reading the article all it concluded was, Bitcoin is still safe and then they past the threat to quantum computing. Typical clickbait.

All true, but I did learn that there are two similar implementations, one NSA and one not, and Satoshi went with the latter.
If someone can crack SHA256 etc, they 1) have cracked a lot more than bitcoin, and 2) it will be highly monetarily advantageous to him to not reveal it nor F with it.
